All Tied Up | Style Inspiration

I follow a ridiculous number of style blogs each day, and it’s so fun to see new trends start to pop up on them. I pull a lot of the inspiration for what I wear each day from what I see on the blogs, and I’m always game to try a new look.

Lately I’m loving that tying your shirts all 80s-like (or was it early 90s?) is coming back into style, because it’s such an effortless way to give a top a little more shape without tucking it in. I have a few blousy tops that I tuck into pencil skirts for work, but with shorts or jeans sometimes the tuck-in just won’t work right, and the blousy tops seem to flap about in the breeze a little too freely if they aren’t properly secured. An untucked blousy top may fall in a  floaty cascade of lovely on a size -00 model, but it just makes me look like I am with child, or just had a giant lunch, neither of which is quite the look I’m shooting for. So proper top securement is a necessity for this girl.

On an unrelated but maybe kind of related note…Josh Groban loves a blousy alcoholic!

Back to the point of all this…

I’m also not so much one for the typical button-down shirt look, so the few that I own tend to just hang out in my closet, rarely being worn. I love that just simply unbuttoning the bottom button (say that 5 times fast) and tying the ends together, or unbuttoning the whole thing (oh the scandal!), tying the ends, and wearing it over another shirt (not so scandalous) can give a tired old white button-down a new lease on life.

So, in a nutshell…I’m totally hopping on this trend bandwagon and tying my shirts, baby!

Here are a few fab examples from some style gurus of the different ways you can tie your shirts….
